Windows updates are a crucial part of keeping the organization running smoothly while maintaining good security posture. Windows updates include everything from overall system functionality to patching vulnerabilities hiding inside the operating system. Here at Availa Bank we keep a consistent update schedule running for all workstations and servers. Microsoft typically releases updates once a month, which we approve and push out to your computer. It is highly encouraged to check for updates once a week to ensure that you machine is fully up to date. Here are the steps to check if your computer has any updates available.

). To start off, you will need to open the settings window and click on "Update & Security." To open the settings window, you should be able to click the windows icon at the bottom left and then the gear icon that appears above that.

). From there you will be presented with either one of these two screens.  Sometimes your computer will find updates automatically, but not all of the time. Whether your computer says you are up to date or not, you can go ahead and click the check for updates button.

). After checking for updates you should get this page. It will say that updates are available and give you a list of the updates in needs. It will either give you an option to install or download the update (depending on where you computer was in process before you checked for updates). On this page you can hit the "install now" or "download now" button. If you get message "You're up to date" and no updates pop up, you're machine is up to date and you don't have to contine with the steps below.

). After you hit the "install now" or "download now" button, it should start updating you machine. This will take awhile so you can let Windows install the updates in the background while you work. You shouldn't notice any slowness while the install is taking place.

). Lastly, Windows needs to restart to apply the updates that were just installed. It should prompt you for the option to restart when it has finished installing the updates. You shouldn't need to restart right away, but it encouraged to restart as soon as you are able to. We recommend that you restart your machine when you are done for the day so Windows can finish updating.
